No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Aight. Let's be honest. How many of you dress for yourselves, and how many dress for others?English
3·16 days agoBoth. I add my own personal style into outfits that are appropriate for the event I am going to and for the season. I do like the extra attention that comes from dressing a bit fancier, but not at the expense of my comfort and I own very few things that require special care or maintenance.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You wake up as a random 10-year-old in 2002 with your memories intact. In your hand is a USB drive with a backup of Wikipedia as of Jan 1 2025. You must keep your identity secret. What do you do?English
8·17 days agoI would just be happy to have a re-start at life and a chance to make better choices. Enjoy simpler times, get a head start on hobbies and passions, see my favorite bands that are no longer around :)
Eventually I would invest in things which would earn me a safety net and extra income (hard to do that as a 10 year old), but not in companies that go against my values. I don’t need to get rich but I would like enough to be able to benefit my loved ones and community. Not the most ambitious, but practical.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Is a Dumb Phones paired with Smartphone possible?English
4·19 days agoI don’t see why you couldn’t have two separate devices - a basic smartphone that has only the apps you need for work (and no other personal information on it such as photos, contacts, etc.) and a “dumbphone” for personal use.
You can use the smartphone without a SIM card if you don’t need to receive calls or texts (some authenticators only require you to enter a code in their app instead of calling or texting you). There are also VOIP and virtual numbers you that you can use on that device if you need call and text features without giving away your personal number.
I like the rugged CAT dumb phones and believe Nokia still makes decent ones.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a drink with taste of energy drink without caffeine?English
10·30 days agoI did a quick search online for caffeine-free energy drinks and saw a brand called Sparking Ice mentioned a few times as having variants without caffeine, as well as Monster Unleaded.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Productive sites/apps to use when boredEnglish
5·1 month agoLanguage learning is one thing that can be done when you only have your phone on you but want to be productive. Browsing Wikipedia can also lead you down some interesting rabbit holes where you end up learning something new. I’ll also use downtime to clean up my files and photos.
Whenever I am using the kitchen is the exact moment that everyone else decides they need something from it and try to shove past me.
I’ve also learned to let people form their own opinions on the food I made instead of preemptively telling them it didn’t come out as well as it could have. Unless it was my first time making something complex, they’ve always been satisfied :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you balance enjoying what you do with having friends?English
14·2 months agoFirst, it’s not only you: making plans that accommodate everyone’s schedules and budgets can be tricky, especially if a lot of people are involved, so you might not be doing anything wrong. You can try letting them know what you want to do earlier in advance so that they know not to make plans for the day. People are more likely to respond to concrete dates, times, and locations instead of vague ones.
Also not all of your friends are going to share your hobbies and interests and that’s ok. Try inviting just the ones you know for sure enjoy the things you do, or joining clubs or activity groups for those things to potentially meet new people to do them with. The time with your other friends can be spent on things you know they want to participate in and can afford.
Appreciate the honesty about the AI disclaimer.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your last “impulse buy” and was it worth it?English
5·2 months agoMetallic mini backpack.
Worth it. I love the color, it was on sale, and I hate carrying purses.
Always make sure your loved ones are buckled up.
