TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there a community for cassette culture?2·1 day agothe nostalgia for something they didn’t get to experience, at least for younger folks. mostly because it’s physical media and they grew up without physical media.
they are a dumb person.
there was no goal. just emotional expression at likely was their own mistake/foolishness.
i’ve definitely have co workers who blow up at me, then realize their error and sheepishly pretend they never blew up at me rather than apologize.
Basically, I give people one or two chances, and then you’re done.
Esp if they cross the line into insults and bad/false argumentation
It also bleeds over into real life too. It’s a habit people develop… just shut out anything/anyone who says anything I don’t like or that causes me to have to think.
for some reason ‘editing’ comments is considered horrible and awful.
i never understood that myself.
dunno if you go out into the world much, but they are also massive jerks there too
they aren’t my ‘brethren’
they are strangers spouting nonsense.
i also block/stop talking to my friends/colleagues who also spout nonsense.
You don’t. It’s on other people to fix themselves.
Sadly, they think you’re a cesspool too for not agreeing with them. I’ve noticed my opinions have become super controversial now because I’m not a polarized person. And non-polarized viewpoints are EVIL to anyone who is an extremist, and all the extremists think they are moderates are the only ones who see ‘the truth’.
Yeah I gave up ‘sourcing’ anything because nobody will believe sources anymore. They will just tell you the source is wrong.
And if you tell them to look up their own sources, they tell you to f yourself and how it isn’t their job its yours.
It’s stupidity and entitlement wrapped up into one neat package.
I also love people who tell you what you are staying is a ‘fallacy’ when it’s not. And they really do not care about learning what a fallacy actually is… they just want to use it to call other people wrong even if they totally misunderstand how fallacies work.
They simple do not want to admit fault or mistake or god forbid… learn something new.
Same man.
I never used to block people on principle… but at the same time people never said horrible shit or harassed me so there really was no reason to.
People also were not posting all sorts of crazy nonsense 10 years ago in the same volume or lever of vitriolic hate they do now.

Not even clients get to see their own notes.
That said, I dated a therapist once. And she was glad to share with me the notes on her patients. Lots of unethical therapists out there.

I’ve never met a techie who didn’t have a weird fetishization thing going on for one or another of the tech oligarchs or their crazy nonsense theories about the world. a lot of them think code sprinting and doing drugs is some form of enlightenment that elevates them above the ‘normies’ who don’t code and do drugs.

They slowly lose their minds are start believing in all sorts of crazy shit. My grandmother kept telling us how people were plotting to break into her home and steal her precious china. (It was worthless shit).
The issue is that this guy is super rich and people want to listen to his crazy old person nonsense.
TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Millions turn to AI chatbots for spiritual guidance and confessionEnglish3·3 days agothe vast majority of people need something to believe in. very few people can live with the detachment of skeptical approaches to life. if they don’t have a god or a religion they will substitute something else for that role. politics or sports are two big ones.
even the tech gods themselves, are mostly driven by egotistical belief sets where they tend to ignore any information that doesn’t cohere and reinforce their beliefs.

There are plenty of terrible therapists, preists, family, and friends out there. Personally I gave up on asking for people for ‘advice’ 20 years ago.

You’re arguing from an ideal. I’m arguing from reality. I look at evidence, not theoretical constructs of how the world ‘should’ be. ’
PRC is not socialist dude. You are straight up delusional. It’s autocratic capitalism. They pivoted to that after Maoism was a titanic failure. But hey, don’t like history or facts get in the way of the fantasy in your head that you got from reading a few books?
TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do people really not care that we live in a society that favours assholes or are there so many more assholes than nice people that it's unstoppable?1·4 days agoit makes them feel important. that’s why.
That’s why most cults have an element of apocalyptic baked in. Fear of the ‘end’ keeps people in line, and it also makes them feel like they are superior to those who are ‘ignorant’ of ‘the end’.
The proto-revolutionaries in the comments here are of the same mindset. They are ‘aware’ want to collapse to come so they can demonstrate how right they were.
Not too different from horror/apocalypse movies too. The fun of those movies is the projection the viewer has about how they would not be as ‘stupid’ as the characters.
TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do people really not care that we live in a society that favours assholes or are there so many more assholes than nice people that it's unstoppable?1·4 days agopretty much. and most people think you’re an asshole if you disagree with them.
can’t tell you how many times I get told I am an asshole for not being into professional sports. for example. i think it’s pretty harmless, but for pro-sports fanatics I’m a heathen to their religion.
The problem is therapy isn’t a catch all for all your problems in life.
People have over generalized it. Therapy works best if it’s applied like physical therapy… identify the problem and go through the exercises to deal with the problem…
but that requires a skilled therapist and patient… and often one/both parties are neither of those things. some therapists and clients develop codependency.
ultimately however, the work is done by the person. and a lot of people dont’ want to do the work.
