I mean, ol’ Marky’s not entirely wrong if you take it as a cheeky statement. They’re generally not spying on their users (ok, they are literally, but…): Their users freely give Facebook the info so they can share with nana, or ragepost about politics, or vacation gloat to their friends, or chat on messenger, or buy on marketplace, etc.
Of course FB/Meta are still evil pieces of shit that deserve nothing but fines, taxes, and regulations for the rest of their existence, but people are still way too trusting of social platforms.
