But that’s just a pipe dream…
Flying Squid@lemmy.worldOPto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•"The insultingly low salary you would have accepted is still too high."English0·7 months agoIf the pay is lower than £30,000 a year, I can’t get a family visa for my wife and daughter.
Meanwhile, a recruited told me I should be asking for £50,000 a year.
And if you look at how much rents are even in the outskirts of London, I think you will find that low amount of pay is not going to let you have much of a life.
Flying Squid@lemmy.worldOPto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•"The insultingly low salary you would have accepted is still too high."English0·7 months agoI was asking for £30,000 a year. I don’t think that’s unreasonable for a professional position.

I’m literally sending two pieces of paper. Thin paper. Not even normal A4 weight. The cost in fuel would be negligible.
Flying Squid@lemmy.worldOPto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•FedEx has absolutely no clue what 'economy' means.English1·9 months agoAgreed.
I don’t really think it is. I have a kid, but we felt that way for much of our 20s and into our early 30s.
People shouldn’t have a child until/unless they really want a one. If you never want a child, you should never have one. One of many reasons abortion should always be legal.
Children should never be abused or neglected.

Oh, I get it now! 8%! How droll!
(What the fuck is he talking about?)
Flying Squid@lemmy.worldto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL about Haitian Independence DebtEnglish1·1 year agoThere is one slightly amusing part- Napoleon was so butthurt about Haiti that he said “fuck it” to all of North America and that’s how the U.S. ended up doubling its size through the Louisiana Purchase.
And if anyone owes a debt to anyone, France owes it to Haiti.
Flying Squid@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?1·1 year agoIt’s “an historical,” not “a historical.” I don’t care if that’s outdated, that’s proper.

You can get a Brother laser printer that’s 10 years old off a site like eBay and it will still be printing just fine in 2050. Mine is so old, it’s USB 1.0.

It never compares the two. It barely mentions Gimp.English0·1 year agoI’m not surprised at least some of it applies, but I’m not sure what still applies and what doesn’t without looking it all up. But I do understand their general point.

It never compares the two. It barely mentions Gimp.English0·1 year agoYou don’t have to pay for it.
But they don’t like mentioning that part.
Edit: Having used both, the only real disadvantage I can see when it comes to Gimp in a Photoshop vs. Gimp comparison- apart from special cases- is that Gimp (for me anyway) has a higher learning curve. I end up having to look up how to do something more often with Gimp. But not having to pay Adobe a monthly fee makes up for that.
I don’t think that’s fair. Plenty of people in this world do not know much about computers or the internet or anything in that area and just need a printer. So they go to their local big box store and there’s the HP printers and they’re a good deal, so they buy them.
Consumers do not get what they deserve when companies treat them like shit just because they don’t have certain knowledge.
