That shit is all fake.
I don’t think there’s been documented evidence of the exact same thing.
But I don’t think anyone that’s watched mma develop over the decades could doubt that there’s some degree or another of control of desired outcomes. It isn’t as blatant as giving orders on who wins and loses. But decks can be stacked, and often seem to be
Fry: Man, I thought Ultimate Robot Fighting was real, like pro-wrestling, but it turns out it’s fixed, like boxing.
If there’s gambling, there’s cheating
And now that it’s basically legal, the money will be much bigger, and the pressure to cheat will get higher. They’ve already uncovered a massive college basketball cheating scandal that was bigger than anyone thought possible.
If the players aren’t being paid to play, I don’t think we can really be upset at them throwing a game every now and then. The people that can get mad are the ones profiting, but the players aren’t employees, they are more like vetted volunteers, so either profit share with them, or remember they are playing a game, not going to work.
Any professional sport infiltrated by this new generation of online sportsbooks/gambling (which is almost all of them) probably has some sort of rigging happening.
I don’t know for sure, but my magic 8-ball says ‘signs point to yes’ if that helps.
I have a hard time trusting the integrity of any sports league. You regularly see teams get screwed over by bad refereeing. There’s just too much smoke over the years. The only sport I don’t know about controversy in is the NHL.
They leave just enough plausible deniability to keep most people believing it’s legit.
There’s just too many ways for it to be rigged behind the scenes in ways no one can see for there to be nothing dirty going on. How much? No one is ever going to be able to answer that.
There’s all kinds of gamesmanship going on in plain sight. The size of the octagon can be altered to benefit a title fighter’s style, legitimate contenders are passed over all the time for more profitable matchups, the UFC brass can put a lot of pressure on a fighter to compete on a certain card or else they’ll be punished in various ways, and fighters who are continuously committing violations and and/or are just legitimately terrible people can be treated with kid gloves, like Jon Jones. To say nothing of fighters routinely gaming drug tests and so forth.
As a long-time MMA watcher, I do think it’s very rare to see someone taking a clear dive, so I’ll give credit to the UFC for not indulging in that, but otherwise they’re a deeply-disturbing org that routinely rips off their fighters, not compensating them fairly for the accumulated brain damage.
I became a fan almost 20yrs ago, and now I can barely stand the UFC. And Dana White truly is a despicable human being who routinely lies and bullies people around him, such as members of the press.
Kind of. I mean every ppv has to have a title bout so you have intern champions. So do the belts even matter.
All pro sports are fixed.
Check out people like Dana White. Does he seem even remotely trustworthy?
I think individuals can be paid to throw fights, but it’s not widespread in the sport, and that kind of thing definitely happens in all sports.
I don’t know but how could they rig Conor McGregors broken leg?
