  • I was in a very similar situation a couple years ago, I was scouted by a recruiter for Axon (who make body cams and tazers). It was a bump from my current role, but I realized that if I was struggling before even taking the role then either

    1. I’d be struggling even worse after taking it, which would make me miserable

    Or

    1. I’d realize that I wasn’t struggling with it anymore, and that’d make me really miserable.

Ignore the people telling you to take the job as some kind of infiltrator/ insider/ conscientious objector: you’re not going to change or dismantle the company from the inside, you’re just going to end up being constantly stressed and miserable each day until you eventually quit. The better solution is to fine a role somewhere that you feel actively helps people.

  • He had a duress password, and told it to a border agent (who had no warrant, but that is no longer legally required for border checks), which then wiped his phone.

He was targeted for being part of the Stop Cop City protest movement (and they were likely looking for contacts), and now the feds are claiming that because he could have had anything, he should be allowed to be charged with possession of whatever they can think of (I.e. they already tried to claim in a press conference that he may have had CSAM, because they couldn’t search it to prove he didn’t).

  • You keep using the word “useful” in a way that suggests you’ve narrowly defined it in your head to exclude art. Life without art quickly results in a whole lot of death. Even the poorest humans throughout history have created music and art, because it’s a fundamental part of human life. Just because art is less critical to immediate survival in most cases than eating doesn’t make it any less necessary than it; shelter being more or less critical than food in a given situation (deadly sub-zero blizzard, more critical. Temperate area with no dangerous weather or predators, less critical) also doesn’t make it more or less necessary, it’s just a varying order of necessity. Being anti-Capitalist is important, but I feel like you’ve written off “professional” art as the domain of Capitalism rather than another victim of it (which food is as well, for that matter).
