You’d be surprised how versatile that one thing is. Or, should I say, how much abuse it gets at ioccc…

I’ve used it since forever (ie. back when Macs were black and white) and just love the curves of the italic style. These days, on Linux, I use Tex Gyre Pagella for basically all my documents.
For UI like menus and such, I’m quite nostalgic for the Chicago font - yes, pixelated and aliased and everything.
noughtnaut@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the weirdest thing you're upset about?7·23 days agoThere’s a wonderful bit of fiction writing where an armourer (I think, it’s been a while) had that exact thought: paper never tears where the holes are, it only tears between the holes. Therefore, the holes must be stronger than the paper. Therefore, to strengthen a material, add (impervious) holes. Ultimately, the strongest material is all holes.

That’s when programs still had proper tool bars and keyboards shortcuts, before the “ribbon” shit started to fuck over everyone’s muscle memory.
It would have made sense for MS to start with “finger painting UI” and then work towards the power user UI - but the other way round makes zero sense to my poor brain.

If you ask it about things you have no clue about, it seems incredibly well-informed and insightful. Ask it something you know deeply, and you’ll easily see it’s just babbling and spouting nonsense - sure makes you wonder about those earlier statements it made, doesn’t it?

Geographically you’re actually close, but linguistically it’s very, very far away.

Until they do, a lot of users are going to be locked into those two big OS vendors. 😞

Are there any dating sites that are actually free and don't suddenly force me to pay to actually use the site?2·2 months agoYou could definitely use lemmy for dating if you wanted to. But dating apps offer eg. geographic filtering and (at least should!) do a much better job of guiding users to make meaningful profiles. Lemmy has no need for such.

I would be interested in such scripts. Why not share them here? 🙏

Got them to share their user profile numbers - 50k - but I’ve a strong feeling that the majority of those are dummy test profiles.

See also: the internal war on everyone who isn’t a middle-aged white cis het man (and even some of them, too). Just negativity all around.
What really brings me down it’s the certainty that even if that is guy was suddenly not there anymore, there is a whole gaggle of like folk ready to continue that same rhetoric. How do you even dig yourselves out of that?

UN Women sounds the alarm over online misogynyEnglish31·3 months agoI have commented stuff like this before, and gotten it deleted (or gotten summarily banned). I have been searching for spaces where this sort of discourse is even allowed, where non-vagina-havers get to say that many men suck but it’s not only their fault and they certainly can’t fix it in a vacuum.

You might’ve heard (of) Habba Habba Zoot Zoot; well, they made an entire album of “plausible sounding” songs in German, Japanese, Finish, American, Russian, etc. It’s really quite hilarious.

Didn’t think one was needed.
