Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think is the worst human invention?
1·11 hours agoWell, none. He can do whatever he wants.
His government is slightly smarter than him so for now we’re safe, however no one’s going to stop a dictator.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think is the worst human invention?
4·11 hours agoIt will inevitably happen. One day a dumb enough ruler will use it.
But what happens next? Do we just stop there, apologize and go back to our normal lives?
And you’re probably right, the next bomb would destroy that ruler, but only if the receiver has nukes as well. If he doesn’t, who’s going to do anything to defend/avange him? No one wants to enter an nuclear war.
What should they use then? Confidential information shouldn’t be sent through emails anyway. Might as well just choose the convenient way for the rest.

202·2 days agoI don’t know if it’s your fault honestly. It’s the system that makes you want to offshore your work to developing countries and not hire local employees. I get it. It’s cheaper. But when even independent developers start doing this we have reached post-late stage capitalism at this point

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does it happen when the law arrest a drug kingpin or whatever and they offer the cops something like 10mil a piece to let him/her go? Has anyone ever actually taken it? Or is movie trope?
11·3 days agoThat’s why you also buy off a high ranking dude so that no one questions the 20mins.

21·4 days agoI can imagine paying them off to let you go in that moment. The arresting officer could just tell his boss I’m sorry he escaped. Or you could pay to delay the investigation.
Then you just flee the US jurisdiction and they never get to see you again!!!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there anything like church without the church?
1·4 days agoI thought their core philosophy was accepting people no matter their social status, religion, occupation or wealth…
I guess it depends on the lodge. From what I’ve read, most of them say that of course it’s easier if you already know someone, but you can just contact them directly if you don’t.
Obviously I don’t know whether or not the selection process is fair to everyone. They say it’s about your values but it could secretly be about your connections and power.
Maybe you can reach out to your instance’s developers and ask them if it’s possible to implement this? Personally I haven’t had any issues with it
Edit:

Well I spoke too soon. But I believe it wasn’t even a cross post, the original poster just copied and pasted
I don’t know if it’s exclusive to some clients, but on Mlem at least you can choose to hide/ show read posts. It works pretty well and prevents reading 5x the same thing.

1·4 days agoGenuinely what’s wrong with Freemasonry? Everything I’ve read about it made me more interested in joining than anything…
I don’t really see the problem. Is it a political stance that is tied to the far right for instance? Or does it have ties to the elite? Maybe deep state sort of thing?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How'd you argue against a person who says rich people are needed to provide jobs to the poor?
2·5 days agoYou should read about the Paris Commune

It’s not a direct argument. But very interesting.
