  • I mean, they kind of did when Marvel worked, during the pandemic I read all the Marvel Ultimate books that were the basis for the MCU originally, and they at the time looked like adolescent BS, but they’re SOOOOO good, and I see how they setup pre-Disney MCU to be great. If Disney is smart they’ll do their Pedro Pascal Reed Richards as evil Reed Richards who wipes out Germany, South East Asia, and Asgard, really a great run until the 2015 Secret Wars that I recommend. At first you’ll be like WTF, but it’s all tongue in cheek and so smart and why Millar is one of the last few comics authors worth reading (Magic Order is great)

Man, the idea for this movie with a liiiiittle nudging could have been sooooooo much better. Really a testament to the inability of modern big studio Hollywood to execute. You add in the guy who was Superman in that movie nobody remembers who is on Legends of Tomorrow as Superman, Shazaam, maybe just go “fuck it” and bring in CW DC characters and do a whole Flashpoint thing instead of the Zod BS…

  • Neoliberalism IS right wing! The contemporary “Liberal” is pro-war, anti-worker, and thinks leftism is a Foucauldian atomization of the workers by identity, a strategy that was literally seeded by the CIA as an anticommunist strategy (how do you think Foucault became universal in Western university curricula?) If you do not have class solidarity, you are not “left” period.

  • I use Gnome as my main driver, have for the last 7-ish years, and on and off before that, so I’m no Gnome hater by any means, but I’ve been using Linux since 1996. Part of what I LOVED was absolute control. I used 1990’s themeable Gnome and then VTWM as my primary window manager because you could script EVERY aspect of your experience (I got rid of title bars for example). Modern Gnome meets my daily driver needs best, but I use KDE where I can elsewhere because it’s just fighting against me less for ideological reasons. I get you need a like philosophy for a project like Gnome to not go crazy, but like… I’d honestly be fine if you could reliably have your basic extensions survive updates, but a random set of extensions that make your desktop how you like die for x months (or maybe permanently) with EVERY new version, and yes, eventually an equivalent or better extension will come along, but a lot of why I like open source is NOT having my preferred windowing settings killed by committee whim with updates. I lag behind updating which helps, but it’s no panacea. If the extensions for basic window manager features that should be there like theming and such, it would be a better user experience because you would have things you can rely on not changing per release.

  • I think the piratebay is fine. I haven’t seen anything mal on piratebay in years, and I think the last mal download I saw then was a basic the video itself is the text “go to http://malware.ru/payload/virus to download the codec for this totally legit file” not like, state actor polymorphic virus shit. For an mkv/mp4 itself to actually do anything, it would need to memory overflow the player (which could be mitigated in several ways) and that’s a heavy engineering lift to use to do much on a modern OS (and would be specific to one OS/version/hardware situation). A criminal organization or state actor bothering to develop something like that isn’t going to put it on piratebay to be downloaded by 10000 randos globally, they’d put it on the public web, or target it to specific high value targets.
