I have installed Linux on a dozen computers from crummy laptops to custom build with graphics card. Most went fine. For the graphics card one, I installed popos to avoid learning about internals , but I could have spent time to solve it, I was lazy.

But I recommend having several distros on usb to do tests . That way things are easiest. Some installs have default settings that work best for random computers. So just spend a few minutes on each to test sound, WiFi and graphics. 5 minutes on each to test 10 flavors

It’s the seeming circle of life: here, like a forest fire, it burns down some previous growth : giving new projects access to the sunlight so as to try to grow as fast as possible before the canopy closes up. Then, they too develop their own coked up bro, as an act of pollination giving more fire.

The older tech bro projects are still there, just trimmed back some after layoffs , never harming the core bros

Also, having played hundreds of hours of their games, I would be content with the older game engine as long as there was a good story line, and decent mechanics ( not related to the op topic).

They can make bad games with this engine, for sure , but I do not want them switch out to photo realism to paint over problems .

It seems to my old self that games would be better if they were a bit ugly, and dangly, to not hide behind all that newness and flashy stuff

I’ve no idea how they hacked. But most likely the vulnerability was a mistake the vacuum cleaner manufacturer did, after using second tier software to “save costs”. And they probably skimped on paying the coders, if any

Most likely someone more sophisticated found the exploit, tried to get a bug bounty , was declined by the penny pinching company, and they posted to a place people like your comment inhabit.

They tried, that’s what counts. The vast majority of people who can do this only dream, even me.

And it’s not a cost barrier ( especially if your instances scale up) so much as low morale

The fact they are a small resource makes me think mistakes will be made. It’s all well and good to combine code by others to make this work. But it’s so easy to mess up in the final product unless they make a lot of effort and also allow outsiders to check out what they are doing internally.

I personally would not use them for sensitive or illegal transactions until much later after others use it a lot
