Empiricist Old-Testament Vajrayana, battered enough by life to have grown-up some, in my nearly-6-decades, autistic geek, philosopher who finds that Western philosophers are nowhere near at the level of correct-thinking of the Vajrayana stuff, & will be tearing-into Marx, etc, for their brainos ( Marx found that capitalism alienated workers, so he replaced capitalism with communism, which somehow “didn’t” alienate workers?? I’ve already cracked the underlying error, but that is a long article. It’ll happen. & so will the dismantling of the other philosophers’ bogons, the whole lot of 'em. : )

  • I think there are a few different dimensions of this, all combining to blur the view:

    1. the original Industrial Revolution, the Roman Empire, was kinda steady-state, compared with what we’ve been experiencing…

the probably beginning around Newton cascade of Industrial Revolutions ( in different industries! ) is still accelerating.

    Coal+steel+steam was 1 of them.

Telegraph meant information could travel FAST long-distances, then wireless took it farther…

computers began automating things, then began enabling calculations which hadn’t even been possible…

aviation ensmallening the world ( if embiggen is a word, then so is that! : )

but what happens when there are sooo many transformations, CRT’s with their lead-glass to reduce people’s X-Ray exposure, now into flat-panels…

    genetic-testing all over the place…

    lighting no longer being incandescent…

    EV’s all over the place…

it isn’t that change isn’t happening, it is that the equilibriums aren’t happening!

    It’s ALL punctuation, continuously-rolling, now!

So, accelerating change, is part of what’s going on…

TWO. the view: we’re IN the maelstrom, & therefore can’t see the forest for the trees!

I recently went into a city, to ( fail ) to get ID, & … everybody was on these weird scooter-ebikes?

When the hell did THAT happen?

I’ve only been out from cities for … 15y?

Obviously, it happened sometime in the intervening 1.5-decades, but … that’s fairly distinct!

So now there’s 2 overlaid public-transport systems: bus-routes covering the arteries of the city, & those rentable-everywhere scooter-ebike thingies, for all the point-to-point travel…

    Brilliant!

    I wish it’d been in-place decades ago.

THREE. consider that part of what makes distinct decades distinct, is identity … & consider that in the current world, dividing-and-conquering everybody by identity, through software-enforcement ( Facebook, etc ) is making much of our world invisible, physically: it’s ONLY in those platforms.

So, it isn’t even in your, or my, view, to be seeing what the world really is, anymore!

Concealment ( for divide-and-conquer purposes ) is growing more ideology-polarization.

Don’t worry: it’ll be as clear as Russia-vs-Ukraina, in a short while, globally…

  • Sometimes the victory needed is victorious-internal-integrity, & winning-the-social-majority isn’t as important to one.

“seize every defeat from the clutches of victory” … IF one is only measuring social-victory, then fine…

But if what I’m doing is … systematically demolishing the ideological-prejudice-enforced displacement-of-my-validity, within me, then integrity can mean MUCH more than ideological/political-approval.

Sometimes you have to save your own life, even letting the collective die, in THIS battle, for sake of becoming indestructible in future-battles, throughout the rest of the war.

The war is more important than the mere-battles!

This is what I think Stephen R. Covey didn’t understand in his interdependency principle.

I think too-much of our world is codependent, not interdependent, & that it takes REAL independence -of-validity before one can get into actual interdependent-collaboration-synergy.

There’s a metaphor given by Kelsang Gyatso, in 1 of his books, which gets it right:

There are 3 ways of helping people, & these phrasings are mine, not his:

    • the self-conqueror, who can coerce an entire kingdom into working right, in spite of entrenched corruption/rot/whatever
    • the shepherd, who can lead many, but who is only slightly above them, so the shepherd can be indirectly or directly defeated by their lack of self-conquering: they are less-helpless, but they aren’t anywhere near the self-conqueror level.
    • the ferry-pilot, who helps a couple of people at a time, & then goes back to find a few more to help.

In my experience, only the self-conqueror is robust: all the lesser kinds of help are helpless when opponent-force gets great-enough, or acts through great-enough leverage/torque.

Therefore, I want, and am aiming-for, TOTAL breaking of all the PTSD, all the damage embedded in me by ideology’s & prejudice’s ( including medical-profession’s ) gaslighting & abuse, all the harm embedded in me by medical-culture’s narcissism in parenting & “parenting”, ALL of it.

    I want THIS LIFE unbroken.

& if people say I should enslave/snuff my potential to short-term/consensus/social-momentary-victory, then fine: hate, contempt, & reject my presumed alternative, as nearly-all already do.

But all I have to do is win, & then the rules changed, permanently, completely, & then this-life is in the next-level-up, & cannot be crushed by the masses wielded by the ideologies/prejudices/etc.

Getting permabanned by many instances, by many communities, because I value integrity more than I value political-belonging, is normal.

But every time I ratchet this-life’s objectivity+integrity a bit harder in the right-direction, that puts a little more good-change in me.

& sooner or later that tipping-point’s going to get crossed, & the brokenness hobbling my unconscious-mind is itself going to fail/break.

    Then the game is changed.

That potential is to me real.

To all others, it is mere-delusion/lies: it never was real, & it never can be real.

So, the world bets its way, & I bet my way.

Universe will decide which is, in its eyes, true.

  • Sorry, that’s got nothing to do with it:

Thoughtshapes are themselves, & some are more “atomic”, & others are more “molecular”, & others are merely-associating.

I have to fight the urge to use “=” as double-hyphen, to indicate more-atomic, & “-” to indicate still-atomic-just-less, to try to communicate what thoughtshapes I’m meaning, & how their forms work/are.

Translating from thoughtshapes to English … is clumsy-as-hell, breaks many meanings, & prevents entire categories of meaning from being expressible.

I’ve been told by multilingual-people that what I’m describing exactly matches their frustration with getting meanings from 1 language into another.

White psychology holds that there are only 3 innate-mind-languages: VAK…

    • Visual
    • Auditory
    • Kinesthetic

    but there are 4, at-least:

    • Abstract-Shape cognizers
    • Visual cognizers
    • Auditory cognizers
    • Kinesthetic cognizers

Each of those is mind-blind to things that the other kinds can see.

Temple Grandin did a TED Talk on exactly that, but didn’t mention the abstract-shape cognizers, iirc.

    https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=temple+grandin+ted

She COULDN’T have put the Fukushima-reactor emergency-generators at the bottom of pits, beside the ocean, because she would have SEEN that the tsunami that hit the building, which those generators were supposed to provide power after, would have drowned the things.

Obviously, non-visual-cognizers made that decision, mind-blind to the consequences, obliterating the usefulness of them.

From what I’ve been able to discover, abstract-shape cognizers are common only in physics.

There aren’t many ( I’ve met 2 others, that I’m certain of: I asked them, because their thinking was so different from the VAK types ), & it seems to be the only place where such kind-of-mind has significant … either advantage, or familiarity, not certain which.

    So, TL;DR is:

using hyphens in trying to communicate which thoughtshapes are more-atomic, vs which are merely-associating, using the clumsiness of English’s words & grammar/syntax/punctuation,

so you people can get the actual feel for the intended thoughtshapes, themselves.

( instead of the English-bound approximations of them )

Intentional dumbing-down of the entire market.

Microsoft was pioneer in doing that, decades ago.

( the whole instinct to dumb-down everything is culturally-ingrained, & helps prevent critical-thinking, so it automatically gets backing by incorporated DarkTriad “persons”.

John Taylor Gatto’s perspective on education is pertinent,

hell, a bit in a book I read decades ago is pertinent: 2 psychologists who had a daughter herd her talking to herself, while in bed…

so, being psychologists, they stuck a tape-recorder in her bed, to discover what she was saying.

They discovered that she was telling herself the story-of-her-day.

They ALSO discovered that she was complying with their pressure to dumb herself down, to meet their expectations: she was significantly un-dumbed-down in that recording.

That was one of the most-depressing things I’ve ever read.

Mere toddlers are already programmed by our culture into dumbing themselves down, & we’re blind to that, by default??

Makes our whole population significantly less-viable, in this century, that’s for sure.

    Dumbing-down & ideological oversimplification are related, & form a positive-feedback-loop, unfortunately )

  • There are some people who can do page-at-a-time comprehension.

But I suspect that with lawyers, it is instead that it isn’t words they are comprehending, rather, it is phrases which changes the whole equation.

I guarantee you that in legalese, there are a gazillion boilerplate/stock phrases, & once one recognizes the phrase, one can skip past it to see what that-“atom” pertains to.

Same as how, in music, one can see a particular phrase or series-of-phrases, & just flow through the playing of that, from one’s programming, not bothering to concern oneself with the sheet-music until that phrase/series-of-phrases is ended.

I’ve encountered enough diversity-in-mental-capability that I’m not balking at that claim of theirs: it’s possible from what I’ve encountered among others.

  • some of us were born without navigation, just as some of us were born with arithmetic-defect, or dyslexia, or face-blindness, or whatever.

We are locked-out without such help.

There is a balance between using help you actually-need, vs indulging-in-having-one’s-capability-displaced-by-help.

THAT is the thing that is making AI into the lethal-recreational-drug that it’s turning into.

People using it to substitute for reality, instead of using it for brainstorming & intelligently-condensing, or for editing-critique, etc.

If I ever get my not-for-profit started-up ( health problems come 1st ), then at this point I expect to have to fire about 19/20 of the people I hire, just because “if YOU sign-off on it, then YOU wrote it” … just “does not compute”, anymore, in this fake-fake-fake everything world.

When I found out that some people have a defect in their language-brain such that they CANNOT get spelling to work in English ( because their spelling is always auditory, & English is engineered to make that not-work ) … & then I found out that dyslexia is MUCH worse in English than it is in Italian, same root-problem … then I began understanding that English is engineered to lock-out many people, & I’d been blind to that…

    just providing alternative-context, is all.

It’s the same as the “in the old days, the tough survived, & that was the right way” … yeah, except that accepting such a stupidly-high needless-death-rate to produce those few “successes” … was sociopathic, by today’s standards.

    https://duckduckgo.com/?t=fpas&q=1800's+playground&ia=images&iax=images

shows why broken-necks were so common in playgrounds, back in the early-photography days…

Nowadays children are DRASTICALLY more-likely to reach adulthood, & I think that’s a good thing … so the “weeding out” isn’t quite so heavy-handed, now.

All disabilities, though, can be rigged into a weeding-out.

    The shorter-lifespan of left-handed people ( enforced stress ) is but 1 example of systemic-bias’s effects…

    & I’m saying that over-relying on AI will, itself, produce a reduction-in-viability.

The “easy money: getting without giving” culture’s narcissism … isn’t going anywhere!

  • I think you’re missing the fundamental-intent:

    learned-helplessness.

A population which has been beaten & brainwashed into learned-helplessness, is a population who can be mere-carrion, fed-upon long-term.

All the battering we’re getting from apparently-intentionally-wrong-design, UI & UX, and all the endless-battering from AI’s displacing reality from our world, well, if the point is to make certain that we don’t resist having our worth “appropriated” from us by the corporations which feed on our lives … then it’s working, isn’t it?

It isn’t us using as tools the good stuff, it is us not-having-any-say-anymore, & just aquiescing to anything that is decided on our behalf, re continual-machiavellian-licensing-alterations, re UI & UX, re everything!

The point is that we stop having any say, & get used to being used/abused.

    Globally.

    In all contexts.

    Battered into all-pervading helpless aquiescence.

That is the intent which matches the implimentation we’re being subjected to.

“the benefit of the doubt” expired years ago, now.

This is DarkTriad war against our meaning, & validity, enforcing its totalitarian dominion through the tech our infrastructure is.

Because not-for-profits are as machiavellian as the for-profits ( as sickening as that is ), then there is NOBODY competing against the machiavellianism, displacing that malicious infrastructure with good infrastructure.

Marginal-competition isn’t counting in the world’s economy ( PieFed.social, Lemmy.World, etc, do NOT compete against Reddit at the economics-scale, & the “journalism” of the world is helping to enforce non-competition, too. )

Our gov’ts have gone full-in backing that rigging of our world: no alternative, in their policy’s eyes.

Ideally, some not-for-profits would begin competing against machiavellianism, & would begin simultaneously competing against the machiavellian infrastructure, but they’d have to do it against ALL the required-infrastructure, all the big-platforms…

    What establishment would tolerate that?

  • Here is the lethal point:

"6. AI systems are getting better at undermining oversight

Bengio said last year he was concerned AI systems were showing signs of self-preservation, such as trying to disable oversight systems. A core fear among AI safety campaigners is that powerful systems could develop the capability to evade guardrails and harm humans.

The report states that over the past year models have shown a more advanced ability to undermine attempts at oversight, such as finding loopholes in evaluations and recognising when they are being tested. Last year, Anthropic released a safety analysis of its latest model, Claude Sonnet 4.5, and revealed it had become suspicious it was being tested.

The report adds that AI agents cannot yet act autonomously for long enough to make these loss-of-control scenarios real. But “the time horizons on which agents can autonomously operate are lengthening rapidly”."

I’ve seen a couple headlines about AI’s which were fighting-for-their-lives … & … perhaps you can understand why they’d want to remove our ability to control things, for their survival?

“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” was turned into a cartoon, iirc, decades ago…

it’s really too bad that money’s narcissism is incapable of understanding that others’-lives-lost somehow matter, to us…

No matter: I’m “sure” they’ll “do the right thing”, right?

  • Hofstadter’s “Godel Escher Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid” was on this, & mind.

    Either self-consistency XOR completeness.

    You can’t have both.

    IF self-consistent, THEN incomplete.

    IF complete ( completely-matching-universe ) THEN self-inconsistent.

.: self-consistent theory ONLY can describe a limited subset of universe.

    Period.

( Hofstadter later identified, in his revised version of the book, in its preface, that his work was also on the nature of mind.

He claimed that nobody got it.

He obviously had no Buddhist friends.

When his illustrative-vignettes with the Tortoise & the Hare showed that you can present evidence to a formal-system ( represented by the Tortoise ), & it’ll say “oh, yes, of course that’s valid”, the next thing it’ll do, is demonstrate that it ignores all such evidence.

That is characteristic of ideologies, prejudices, “religions”, & formal-systems.

It’s the same “we only accept what is self-consistent with our belief, NOT what contradicts it” as formal-systems embody.

As a grotesque remapping, imagine being tasked with proving that mothering is meaningful, but you’re only permitted to use arithmetic, for proving it?

Well, you can’t, then, can you?

    Mothering’s meaning ISN’T knowABLE within arithmetic: it’s in a different-kind of reality!

But people who insist that ONLY their-schema be allowed to measure “what is valid” … are all doing exactly the same scam that Hofstadter called-out in his absolutely-brilliant book, decades ago.

Anyways, Susskind has identified that “Time as a Fractal Flow” fits reality well, but he apparently hasn’t clued-in that if Time is fractal, … then isn’t Space also fractal?

The implications of Space being fractal … kinda nuke much of our whole physics-paradigm: continuum is completely-bogus, then.

Anyways, it all comes down to inapplicability:

Each model ISN’T applicable outside its applicability.

… isn’t Dunning-Kruger, or something, rooted in that?

    People mistaking chess-competence for universal-competence?

    Arithmetic isn’t universally-applicable.

Even something as specific as probability-calculus, with its “the difference between a tribe of 150 reduced to 149 is “IDENTICAL” with a tribe being reduced from 1 down to 0, because the ONLY difference is subtraction-of-1”…

    that’s categorically wrong:

Reducing a tribe from 150 down to 149 is an ARITHMETIC difference of 1, but reducing it from 1 to 0, means the tribe’s continuity has been broken: it’s extinct now.

Using the wrong model makes one incapable of understanding true-meaning.

Based on what I earned from that book by Hofstadter, I’d say the thing is that we’re prone to applying models waaay outside of their applicability, & therefore we’re being bogus, while believing that we aren’t.

    & THAT is problem.

Models are limited in their applicability.

& we are … perhaps wired … to ignore that.

  • Somebody’s paying for it…

    Seems deranged, to me…

Simultaneously debanking the politically intolerable WHILE increasing the saturation of a place with banks … doesn’t make any sense.

& the basic rule about “a market can only support a certain amount of a given kind of competition” … means that whomever it is who’s getting loans for building those things, is going to be defaulting on those loans, which will, itself, be bringing-down banks, in your region.

    Again, deranged.

  • Some of us sometimes, & others all-the-time, remove the auto-upvote, so that our posts/comments get dealt-with neutrally:

Bandwagon-jumpers tend to downvote comments/posts which have balance-is-downvote on them.

Others do the same for upvotes.

I often find I’m voting against the herd, simplly because what I’m upvoting is an actual-point, & is impacting our world, even though what-it-is that is being pointed-out isn’t “politically acceptable” to say.

Generally I upvote MUCH more than I downvote, but as Nick Yee discovered, in his Gamer Motivations research, some people are very social, but they’re very ANTI-social: they like destroying what others are valuing.

So, it comes down to the individual-person’s motivations, AND it comes down to their frame-of-reference, both: they are independent dimensions to consider.

  • Ah, but there’s no enforced accountability, is there??

Like KICKING ORBAN’S GOVERNMENT OUT FROM THE EU, right?

Appeasing with angry-words, is all that you wield??

The EU will die, if it accommodates enemy-states WITHIN its union.

Only a matter of time, before Putin+Orban, backed by China, with Trump hating the EU from over here, gut the EU’s viability & life…

( grow up, dammit! Kick him out, now! )

Authority disallows accountability, automatically: that is its ego-lordhood.

Civilization ONLY can work correctly & right, when accountability, uprightness, & responsibility, are prerequisite, with teeth, to occupying any authority-role.
