The best bits of 30 rock are when they make fun of how genuinely bad snl is most of the time.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Okay... so how do depressed people even have relationships? Did they get depresion after they already got into the relationship or did they actually went dating while having depression?
2·8 days agoHaving a sad life is not the same thing as depression.
Depression is a condition that persists regardless. Bad bouts are often triggered by legit shitty things happening, but unlike non-depressives who can react appropriate to the scale of the shitty thing and remember that it’s a temp problem, depression encourages black and white thinking.
Depression is knowing in your heart that this is the worst thing in the world, is because you’re irredeemably broken, and will never change or get better. In reality, that’s not true.
Like most chronic health issues, symptoms ebb and flow, so sometimes you can be talked down or see the light yourself. Othertimes you cannot.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How much of it is society is collapsing versus the daily on-goings of the ruling class was so obscure that they were easier to ignore?
2·13 days agoYeah as concerning as the present historical moment is to live through, i’m really excited about the light it can shine on the past - what imperial transitions look like.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Pretty sure this is one of the harbingers of the apocalypse...
46·13 days agoPointing out what a shitbag someone is seems entirely appropriate for the comments of a shitposting community though.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I am an American. I used to be proud of my country. Now it feels like a turd circling the drain. Is there anything going on behind the scene that America is actually doing good in?
3·14 days agoI spent like 6 months in 雲南 and 18 in 台灣 but yeah i’m not familiar with 台山.
But for years afterwards people who i talked to would ask me about thailand, even a close friend took like 6 months to understand no, not thailand, somewhere else. I think most places you could speak cantonese and say you’re from cambodia and no one would bat an eyelid 😆

5·14 days agoOr I could pretend to be from Taiwan… most people probably can’t tell anyways, its just the same Mandarin to them
If you say you’re from taiwan, i think many people will say, “oh i love thai food!” 😆
When i worked in a mall there were no staff bathrooms.
I came to refer to the sound of nearby-diarrhea as “ringng the taco bells”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Happy Ides of March Lemmy! Who do you most hope gets "et tu"-ed?
121·18 days agoPersonally i’m hoping for good news from the hungarian election and the end of orban.
And of course like every being capable of moral reasoning, i can’t wait to see steven miller in a prison he built, locked in a 10 person cell with 1 toilet and 100 other nazis. Happy days! 😊
I got in trouble at work because I answered the official osha self-walkthrough report question “Was any horseplay observed?” by writing “Only light shinenangans that did not rise to the level of horseplay”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do YOU think the resource drain associated with AI will ever be offset by future capabilities?
4·21 days agoA lot of what ai is good at is very useful for automating massive state surveillance programs. AI could monitor live audio and video communication for problem phrases, for example.
Making authoritarian rule easier and cheaper is a very valuable capability to elites, though detrimantal to the world.
I think the main effect of ai will be continuing this deadly trend of power consolidation that we’ve seen since maybe the mesolithic. The power of information will be conslidated in fewer and fewer ai-oligarchs, allowing ever more intrusive states to control more people more precisely.

Technology@lemmy.world•After outages, Amazon to make senior engineers sign off on AI-assisted changes
30·23 days agoIt’s going to make snr devs get fired, surely?
They either refuse to sign off when boss wants them to and get fired or sign off and get fired when ai code they signed off on causes issues.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK you can fold fitted sheets neatly (guide by ratfactor)
8·24 days agoLol no.
Who are we trying to impress with how un-creased are sheets briefly are before we sleep on them? Ourselves? We’re much too smart to be impressed by something so irrelevant.
In taiwan they bake them, mash them, sculpt the mash into a potato shape, bread that, fry it, cut that open, then serve it with some combo of broccoli, corn, pineapple, shrimp, oyster mushroom and always swimming in an inch of nacho cheese.
Good vodka is just vodka that tastes less like vodka.
That’s almost identical to how my family makes latkes, just we add a little grated onion as well. Going back we’re from nearby poland/lithuana so not that surprising i suppose.
We’ve found the secret is to hand-squeeze the moisture out of the gratings before adding the flour and egg, it just tastes way better.

This video from Ancient Americas on the history of the potato might be in my top 10 youtube videos.
Isn’t rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer cheaper though?
Either you’ve never tasted vodka or you’ve never tasted anything else made from potatoes.

One of my best highschool teachers taught us this ~25 years ago, basing it on some research his academic wife had done.
The way i heard it was everyone remembers better if they see, hear and speak the information. The whole “i’m a visual learner” thing has no evidence behind it.
Everyone remembers more the more senses they engage.
