When customs ROMs and most FOSS apps are killed next year on Android, we’re all going to find out very quickly how much the trap has closed around us.
Same reason I loved to Linux on desktop, something that used to be cool and open and at least work mostly has enshittified beyond repair. I’m not going to let the bastards get me if I can help it.

Then, uh, tea? You want tea? Or whiskey? Look, your options are: tea, whiskey, water, wine, and coffee. Pick up to 4. Same cup, that’s cool, you do you.
Then I’ll bake a tiny cake and we can watch 90’s music videos and play Nintendo until our eyes bleed.

But it goes both ways, which is why I use things like crates of (12) beers that already have numbers baked in to the system.

Android users are screwed - Louis RossmannEnglish23·2 days agoThey also stopped support that allowed for easier development of custom ROMs a couple weeks back. So it’s not good news for custom ROMs. Either someone needs to form Android for good, or Linux phones are our next best bet.
Back in 2019 when the leadership changed, they moved to be 100% about advertising, which is why Google started going browser fingerprint tracking. Invasive is the name of the game. Within 6 months of that, they’re also locking down their entire ecosystem like Apples does, specifically to squeeze more data out for advertising. This isn’t an action taken in a vacuum.

The memory palace really works. I had a combination lock in grad school and used that method to memorize the combo. 38 is 3 crates of beer with 2 bottles on top, 24 was 2 dozen doughnuts, and 30 somehow got associated with a plant. Which I placed in a cubicle in a set of 6 from the place I worked before grad school. Still remember it more than a decade later.

if I’m not at home and need to walk my spouse through something like checking for a tripped breaker, I’m visualizing the whole process so I can explain it in detail. How does the other side do this? No judgement, I’m genuinely curious how it works.

My grandfather survived WWII and proudly told be people of all the bombs he dropped, he never dropped the F-bomb.
What’s next? There’s no new forbidden words. Nothing left in the back of the store. Our ability to run through words outpaced our ability to make bad ones.

If Google, Meta, and MS tomorrow rolled out a social credit system that made the Chinese version look generous, 95+% of their users would not change a THING to avoid it. Maybe 98% of their users.
Same. Never use these things on Android.
