I have a coworker who greets me with “Hi, what’s up? How’s it going?” and then just continue walking without expecting an answer. It’s such a pet peeve of mine, lol. We’re not Americans, we live in Europe, and this person is definitely an exception, but it still catches me off guard every single time.

[FactCheck In Body And Comments]English1·13 days agoSo kind of like in Austria, but not as bad. The overtime cap is 70 hours (total, and does not get wiped each month) before you can start getting paid for each extra overtime hour. But the tax eats enough of it, that many people just exchange it for days off before they reach 70 hours. Or just work longer hours Mon-Thu and work shorter Fridays – of course, this doesn’t work for all job positions. I don’t think employers are legally allowed to force the workers to use up that overtime, and there is a legal daily limit, but how it works in my company, we just transfer those hours to another day instead, so people can still work over that limit regardless.
Yeah, it’s not exactly a worker’s utopia here, for sure, but at least there’s some raise every year that my employer wouldn’t otherwise give me if not for collective bargaining.
No minimum wage, but we do have collective bargaining, for anyone who’s interested.
DeviantOvary@lemmy.worldtoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•It *is* wild, but no longer surprising.English5·18 days agoI’m starting to understand why some people believe in the simulation theory. Like, this is too dumb to be reality, right? Realizing how utterly stupid and hateful people who voted for this are, is genuinely terrifying. Idiocracy, but worse, because at least the president in it was redeemed.
Because most likely the original was translated to another language (Russian, most likely), and then that got translated back to English.
