Linux@lemmy.ml•Coworker wants to try Linux with gaming, Bazzite or Mint?English
3·9 days agoAt the end of the day, Nobara is pretty much a one-man hobby project. Sure, there is a small community around it nowadays but even then, if the main developer decides to drop it, they’d have hard time keeping up. That’s why I’m usually hesitant to recommend these types of distributions and I’d rather recommend something tried and tested with a big community build over many years.

Games@lemmy.world•Games you really want to play, but can't or won't?English
6·12 days agoA lot of soulslike games. I’m terrible with a controller for anything that is not in 2D. I tried Dark Souls 1. Managed to kill Gargoyles, ventured into Darkroot Basin and got filtered. Ents taking 80% of my HP on hit was pretty frustrating too.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?English
2·12 days agoCurrently going through Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr. The game itself is pretty basic, there is honestly not that much variation for skills or builds, the maps are pretty repeatable outside of main storyline and performance is terrible. Still, it scratches that itch that I’ve had for the past few weeks for a hack and slash game. And smashing into a horde of Tyranids with a big hammer is pretty satisfying.

Games@lemmy.world•Why is Valve being sued for almost $900 million, but Epic Games wasn't sued when they bought Rocket League and Fall Guys to remove them from steam?English
98·12 days agoIs Steam the “good guy” in all this? Of course not.
Too bad a lot of people, even here or in other threads, don’t get it, so they willingly cheer for Valve simply because Tim Sweeney sucks.

42·12 days agoI’m honestly not sure whether it’s some huge astroturfing campaing or just people simply sucking off billionaires for no reason, but every time we see ANY criticism towards Valve or Gaben, most of the commenters flock in support of Valve. Underage gambling? Oh, who cares. Lootboxes? Well, that’s okay. Taking 30% cut for games? Uh, actually, that’s not a lot! Gaben owning a ton of yachts? Well, he’s a good guy, so it’s fine. And when Valve got forced by Australian court to create a refund policy, I saw a TON of comments saying it was actually wholesome valve who voluntarily decided to create it. But apparently they get a pass because they’re smart enough to invest in a backup solution (Linux) in case Microsoft fucks them over.

31·12 days agoHey, we don’t talk about that here! Gaben is wholesome and even though he is a billionaire who owns a yacht company funded by lootboxes, he’s one of the good ones!

3·12 days agoPeople seem to forget that without courts of law, the steam refund policy wouldn’t exist. Valve fought tooth and nail to be exempt from that.

i have win 11 on one of my laptops and I saw this issue. I do a lot of alt-tabbing and it made me go crazy because almost every time that happened, i’d have to minimize my browser and open it again or the webpage (and the browser ui) wouldn’t render correctly.

16·14 days agoThere is currently an ongoing isssue with Chromium/Electron rendering being almost-unusable with VRR. It was first reported almost a year ago. Microsoft doesn’t care enough to fix it. But hey, at least you get Copilot so it can tell you what registry tweak you have to add to fix it yourself!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Do you use Arch btw? Best Arch distro?English
1·15 days agoFor me it’s pretty simple:
-older hardware/no need for up to date packages - Debian
-new hardware, needs up-to-date software - Arch
And that’s it. Though obviously, you can also use flatpak if you truly need newer versions of software. Personally I have arch on my gaming PC + Debian on my multimedia-consumption laptop.
It’s really weird how Mozilla is trying to market to the punk-anarchists and the AI techbros at the same time. It won’t work.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to add in the main post that I’ve researched that too. I know about FESCo and I understand what you’re saying about it being kind of a counter-weight to Red Hat. But there is a pretty big problem:
Out of 9 current FESCo board members, 6 are Red Hat employees, one of them is an ex-Red Hat employee, which leaves only 2 members that are not affiliated with Red Hat. Now, I understand that there’s probably not some big conspiracy there, I assume it’s just that their job at RH allows them to work on Fedora a lot more than anyone else, and in turn, they’re chosen for the board because their contributions will usually be very noticeable. But at the end of the day, I think there is a conflict of interest there. When faced with a heavy choice, do you stand with your employer who puts food on your table or a community of strangers that doesn’t really give you real life benefits?
