Democracy relies on transparency and verification, not trust. Any government official who tries to keep secrets from the public is an enemy of the People.
You need some trust I think. You wouldn‘t really need elections if everything was fact based and that would cause distrust.
You give power to someone that is the trust they got. Nothing less but also nothing more!
Democracy does not need government. Works better without it.
