In traditional Egyptian faiths/cosmology, spirits can join each other at the Field of Reeds – in fact being with loved ones is a core concept of that afterlife too – but the criteria for entry is simply the morals which we all live by: no stealing (selfishly) from others, no lying (with intent to harm), no murdering and no polluting the Nile (eco terrorism, desecrating the Gods and sabotaging the sole sustainer of life in the desert). Selfishness, greed, malice, and cruelty. Everyone who can prove their goodness gets in. Oh, and the alternative isn’t endless torture, but a second death – nonexistence.

I’ve always looked for an alternative faith system to Western ones – I’ve never been a fan of oppression or rule via fear – but the Egyptian faith is one of my favourites.

Maybe they’re in the Field of Reeds. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking solace in an idea - even though I myself can’t believe in them.
