I fly a lot and rarely do I see someone with absolutely nothing on the plane. Having a checked bag by no means excludes you from also having a carry-on
Yup, same. I almost never see someone without a backpack or something. I often see people without a carry on suitcase, usually because they were forced to gate check it though.

Checked luggage as opposed to carry on. If you don’t need to rummage around the overhead to find your bag, you get to leave first.

Does it? You need to wait at the carousel anyway. If I have checked luggage, I let everyone else exit, I’m in no hurry.
