They are under water. So, aren’t they technically floating?
In their mind, they are flying.
Both.
Swimming means to self-propel through (typically) water either on the surface or beneath it.
Floating means to be buoyant, either on the surface with positive buoyancy or in the middle of it with a neutral buoyancy.
So fish can swim in water and also float in water.

I have yet to see a fish swimming through jam
No, but if it did, it would still be swimming :)
I was definitely being pedantic but a lot of it is defensive pedantry learned from too many years of being online where if you don’t close a hole someone will jump on you for it.
Nw. I too hate internet pedantry
Are fish made of wood? We should try building a bridge out of them to be sure
Yes
Yes
Fish obviously swim with their fins and stuff
Many fish have swim bladders they use to change their buoyancy
Do you think an hippopotamus is floating because it’s under water?
No. Hippopotamus swims. Because it’s fat ass head is always above the water.
Actually they often move through the water by running along the bottom, fully submerged.
My bad.
That means Hippopotamus actually floats.
